The adventurous cave hike for sporty participants
Are you sporty and fit? Are you looking for a special challenge? Then our Hölloch Challenge is just right for you. In addition to exciting information about the cave system, this tour with numerous crawling and climbing sections offers above all a lot of action.
Cave experiences
The tour starts along the impressive Hauptgang, where there are interesting rock formations to discover. At the Bösen Wand we start our way back and after the lunch break we advance through the Widmer and Saxer-Gang into the lower cave system. We reach the lowest point of the cave system at Lake Zurich, where the karst water level is. A tour highlight is the Sintergang with its crystal-clear water pools, which we walk through barefoot.
Great fun for active companies, clubs and families
We recommend that groups end this varied tour in the Hölloch Apéro-Saal with an atmospheric cave aperitif or a fine cave raclette by candlelight and cave music. Enjoy this special atmosphere and relive your experiences in the natural wonder “Hölloch”.
Implementation: This tour is only available from March to October for groups of 6 or more. The start is between approx. 10.00 and 11.00 am.
Duration: approx. 6 hours; with an additional cave aperitif approx. 6.5 hours, with a cave raclette approx. 7 – 7.5 hours.
Good to know: The cave temperature is 6°C all year round. The humidity is almost 100%.
Reservation: absolutely necessary
Group size: The Hölloch-Parcours can be organized for groups of 6 or more people on your desired date. If you are less than 6 people, you are welcome to join already planned tours (overview of dates/booking under this link). Approx. 6 – 9 people per group/cave guide. If there are fewer than 6 participants, the tour can also be booked as an exclusive tour for a flat rate of CHF 1170.00.
Meeting point: Hölloch Center, Stalden 16 in 6436 Muotathal.
Requirements: This tour is intended to be a challenge and is manageable with a good level of fitness; comparable to a mountain tour with rough terrain, easy climbing passages and longer crawling sections. Also suitable for sporty children aged 10 and over.
Bring along: Warm wool socks; long thermal underwear (shirt and pants) and/or a thin turtleneck sweater and a pair of leggings/jogging pants*. On top: old, warm, robust and hard-wearing clothes that are not a pity to lose. In addition, spare clothes for the trip home, as the cave clothes can get very dirty. (Alternative: hire caving overalls for CHF 25.00 per person).
Robust rucksack with lunch and drink in a plastic or metal bottle (water can be refilled in the cave) as well as a fiber fur jacket to protect against cooling down during the breaks. In addition: energy-boosting snacks (fruit or cereal/chocolate bars).
* Please note – the temperature in the Hölloch is a constant 6°C and the humidity is almost 100%. As long as you are on the move, you will normally be warm enough. However, for participants who are sensitive to the cold, we generally recommend a combination of thermal underwear AND a thin turtleneck sweater under the cave overall/under your own clothes (for those who are not particularly sensitive to the cold, “either – or” is sufficient).
Hölloch barbecue area: Before or after the cave tour, a barbecue area is also available on request at the Hölloch Warden’s House, which is idyllically situated in a small wood next to the mountain stream. Use of the barbecue area is free of charge for our guests. Please let us know if you would like to use this area so that we can reserve it for you.
Cave aperitif / cave raclette: As a group, you are welcome to round off the Hölloch Parcours with an atmospheric cave aperitif or a warming cave raclette by candlelight and cave music. Treat yourself to a glass of white wine, enjoy the magical and unique atmosphere and share your cave experiences with each other. An ideal way to round off this adventurous tour!
